The European University Sports Association (EUSA) organizes the University European Championships in different locations for various sports disciplines in odd years. This year, sports events will be held across Europe in 20 different sports, and the University of Miskolc will host the badminton and water polo championships from July 13th to July 19th. The championships serve as an official test event for the 2024 European Universities Games (EUG), as announced during the press conference held on July 6th in the glass lobby of the University of Miskolc.

The European Universities initiative and events like these championships underscore the importance of international cooperation in higher education, sports diplomacy, and cultural exchange, strengthening the bonds within the European academic and athletic communities.

07.11. PTE Athletes Shine at the European University Games

Naji Dávid won a bronze medal, while Szabó Cseperke placed 7th at the European University Games (EUSA) on July 11th.

Reflecting on his performance, Naji Dávid stated, "Overall, the competition went well, but I wasn't at my peak. I regretted my inattention in the first match, but I found my form in the following matches and won a bronze medal. Though I feel I wasn't in my best form, I'm satisfied with the bronze."

Szabó Cseperke, still competing in the junior category, also delivered a notable performance. She placed 7th out of 25 competitors, an impressive feat in such a strong field.

Coach Márton Kéki praised Szabó Cseperke: "As a junior, finishing 7th out of 25 is remarkable. She defeated a Portuguese competitor, lost to the eventual champion (the 2023 European champion), then won against a French opponent, and narrowly lost to a German competitor. This result is especially impressive considering her young age!"

07.15. The University of Pécs competed in multiple martial arts, including karate, judo, and kickboxing, securing bronze medals in the latter two

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Kis Levente Péter had to compete in the 67 kg weight class instead of his usual 60 kg category. In his first match, he faced the formidable Koray Sarı from Uludağ University, Turkey. Despite the weight difference, Kis Levente held his ground but was eventually overpowered by Sarı’s stronger kicks. Coach József Jorcsák praised Kis Levente for his preparedness and resilience, noting that he resumed training immediately to excel in his own weight class in September.

Tóth Bendegúz Sándor, competing in the 81 kg category, reached the semifinals but was defeated by Vito Stojcic of Croatia. Despite the loss, he earned a bronze medal. Coach József Jorcsák commended Bendegúz for his strategic match, despite a few mistakes. Bendegúz reflected on the high-quality organization and sportsmanship at EUSA, appreciating the experience and the camaraderie with fellow athletes.
