What does the course cover?
You will be introduced to the scientific approach and critical thinking in an interesting and innovative way.
- This course is an opportunity to develop your knowledge in the field of research through a variety of themes enabling you to develop both theoretical and technical skills needed to carry out research and to explore various areas of application.
- The course consists in 9 interactive and exciting online modules, with contributions from teacher-researchers and experts from the European Alliance. Each module lasts about 3 hours and includes videos, text, interactive activities and quizzes. Students are invited to study in autonomy, at their own pace, over a period of 10 weeks. This course is offered to students from all disciplines at the 8 EDUC universities in Europe, from bachelor year 1.
This online course focuses on the following themes:
- Scientific methods, integrity and ethics
- Identification of a scientific question
- Bibliographic research and tools
- Past and future of computation
- Data science and management
- Artificial intelligence
- Science for and with society
- Research committed to societal issues
- Research and inclusion
Who can register for the course?
Any student from EDUC universities. There are no prerequisites other than a good knowledge of English (minimum level B1). Enrolment is very simple.
How and when do I enroll?
Register HERE until 2 May 2024 to take part in the session running from 3 May to 12 July 2024.
On 3rd of May, enrolled students will receive an email with information on how to register for the course on the EDUC Moodle platform.
Information and registration are also available in the EDUC course catalogue.
For Bachelor students, successful completion of the course will enable you to apply for a one-week observation placement in one of the research laboratories of an EDUC university.
Why enrol?
- If you are curious to learn more about the world of research and want to develop cross-disciplinary skills while adding an international touch to your CV;
- This online course is an opportunity to discover or review your knowledge of the scientific approach, its methods and tools. In addition to theoretical aspects and useful tools, the activities focus on the various fields of application of research;
- You will get 1 ECTS for full completion of the online course;
- You will get 2 additional ECTS if selected to do an internship / observation week in a research laboratory, with submission of a final report.
What does the internship / observation week involve?
Undergraduate students who pass the course will be able to apply for a one-week internship. Internships will only be available to undergraduate students. An excellent opportunity to spend a period of observation in a research laboratory! Selected students will have the chance to interact with researchers and PhD students.
You will have the opportunity to discover how a research laboratory works and to test the scientific hypotheses developed during the course. The internship can be in a research laboratory at your home university or at one of the EDUC universities in Europe (mobility grants are available). Following the internship, you will be required to submit a final report (in your choice of format: Word, video, PPT presentation, poster).
Students eligible to apply for the internship will be contacted in the weeks following the end of the online course.
