The EDUC alliance continues to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing among its partners through the EDUC-WIDE EGRI Meeting, hosted at the University of Cagliari on 12-13 September 2024. This meeting, which focuses on Work Packages WP7 and WP8, brings together experts from across the alliance to discuss strategies for improving access to research infrastructures (RIs), promoting the ongoing EDUC-WIDE Research Infrastructure Access Call, and sharing best practices.

The two-day event will feature in-person and remote participation, ensuring the inclusion of all EDUC partners.

Day 1: 12 September 2024

Venue: Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, Building M, Room B0, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DIEE), University of Cagliari

13:00-13:10 | Welcoming and Introduction

Speaker: Alessandra Carucci, University of Cagliari
The meeting will begin with an official welcome from Alessandra Carucci, setting the stage for two days of fruitful discussions on research infrastructure strategies and collaboration across the EDUC alliance.

13:10-13:50 | Polilab Presentation and Lab Visit

Speakers: Gianluca Gatto & Amit Kumar, University of Cagliari
A presentation on the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) lab facilities will follow, offering insights into testing and compliance protocols at the University of Cagliari’s Polilab.

13:50-14:15 | Research Infrastructure (RI) Strategy at the University of Pécs

Speaker: Zsolt Bedö, University of Pécs
Zsolt Bedö will share how the University of Pécs is implementing strategies to maximize the use and impact of their research infrastructure.

14:15-15:15 | Research Infrastructure Access Call Promotion Discussion

Speakers: EGRI Members
A roundtable discussion will provide an opportunity for members to brainstorm and develop strategies to promote the EDUC-WIDE Research Infrastructure Access Call.

This session is open to University of Cagliari (UNICA) researchers and will provide an overview of the EDUC Research Infrastructures Database, how to apply for access, and a detailed explanation of the infrastructures available through EDUC partners. The session will conclude with a discussion on access call projects from the user’s perspective.

9:15-9:30 | Management Strategy of Research Infrastructures at UNICA – The Experience of CeSAR

Speaker: Janira Pisano, CeSAR, University of Cagliari
Janira Pisano will share CeSAR's approach to managing research infrastructure, with a focus on how to best support researchers and foster innovation.

9:30-10:30 | CeSAR Facilities Presentation and Visit

Speakers: Marta Costa & Enrico Podda, CeSAR, University of Cagliari
Attendees will be guided through the CeSAR facilities, learning firsthand about the resources and technologies available to EDUC members.

10:30-12:00 | Round Table: Knowledge Exchange Scheme – Defining Strategic Areas
This roundtable discussion will focus on identifying and defining key strategic areas for collaboration within the EDUC alliance, across a variety of disciplines including:

  • Molecular Analysis
  • Nanotechnologies/Cleanrooms
  • Cryo-Electron Microscopy
  • Social Sciences and Humanities
  • Genomics and Bioinformatics
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Virology BSL4
  • Single Crystal X-Ray Diffraction
  • Geoscience

The discussion will aim to assign a lead university for each strategic area, ensuring continued collaboration and development within EDUC.

12:30-13:15 | Planning Next Steps

Speakers: EGRI Members
This session will focus on developing action plans for future collaborations and next steps in enhancing research infrastructure access and communication across the alliance.

This meeting marks an important milestone in fostering collaboration between EDUC partners and enhancing access to world-class research infrastructure. The ongoing Research Infrastructure Access Call aims to stimulate research and innovation by providing researchers across the alliance with access to advanced technologies and facilities.
