Disabilities and Abilities Framed by Context - EDUC-SHARE Conference
We are excited to invite you for our upcoming two-day conference on the issue of disability, titled "Disabilities and Abilities Framed by Context." The conference will take place on the 16th and 17th of January 2024 at the University of Pécs, Hungary, and is part of the EDUC-SHARE project, a collaborative initiative involving eight universities.
Disabilities and Abilities Framed by Context
In the landscape of disability studies, it is imperative to recognize the dynamic interplay between disabilities and consequently abilities or privileges within specific contexts. Whether viewed through a social lens or within the framework of clinical psychology, these conditions are not static entities but rather intricately shaped by the environments in which they manifest. This conference aims to explore this dynamic relationship, emphasizing the contextual nature of disabilities and abilities and how these conditions are influenced by various factors. While the medical model views disability as a personal deficit or impairment, the social model shifts the focus to societal and environmental factors that contribute to disabling conditions, understanding disability is not solely a result of an individual's physical or mental condition but also socially constructed, seen as a product of societal attitudes, policies, and physical barriers.
Conference Objectives:
We invite researchers from the EDUC network who are engaged in service, work, research, and teaching related to the concept of disability from diverse perspectives. Our goal is to curate a panel of experts presenting their unique insights, fostering dialogue, and identifying common grounds and further possibilities of collaboration.
About the Conference:
The conference, hosted by the University of Pécs, will be held as part of the EDUC-SHARE project's WP 1, focusing on fostering cooperation among researchers interested in the field of disability. The travel costs will be paid by your own EDUC partner university, while hosting, accommodation and catering from the University of Pécs.
Your Invitation:
As a respected researcher in the field, your expertise and insights are highly valued. We invite you to participate in this conference, offering a platform for the exchange of knowledge, the sharing of research interests, and the exploration of potential collaborations. By bringing together experts from each university involved in the EDUC-SHARE program, we aim to facilitate in-depth discussions that can lead to meaningful collaborations in addressing challenges related to disability.
Confirmation of Participation:
To express your interest in participating, kindly send to one of us an email by the 15th of December, and please provide us with a working title for your presentation. This will enable us to tailor the program.
