As a part of the EDUC young researchers programme (EYRP) the University of Pécs is looking for a postdoctoral researcher.

 

The EYRP is an international postdoctoral fellowship programme aiming at attracting talented scientists to develop their two-year project in the Universities of the EDUC Alliance in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (C&C). 

The purpose of a postdoctoral position is four-fold: 

  1. To develop creativity and independence as a scientific researcher 
  2. To obtain new skills and develop new methodologies 
  3. To provide networking opportunities with other researchers within and outside the field 
  4. To receive career development training for future career goals.

 

Tasks:

Option 1:University of Pécs – Medical School

Institute of Biochemistry and Medical Chemistry

  • Research topic: Fatty acid analysis of plant-based foods
  • Field of science: nutrition, chemistry

Institute of Physiology

  • Research topic: Neuroscience
  • Field of science: Metabolic consideration of posttraumatic stress disorder

Institute of Translational Medicine

Research topic: 

  • Exploring the regulation of body temperature in health and disease,
  • Primarily through preclinical (animal experimental) studies, and to a lesser extent, clinical investigations.

Institute of Primary Care

  • PALliative Care Yields Cancer welLbEing Support (PAL-CYCLES) (HORIZON-HLTH-2021-DISEASE-04-01) – Palliative and end-of-life care, medical communication, oncology (2022-2027)
  • EU PAL-COPD (HORIZON-HLTH-2023-DISEASE-03-01) – Palliative and end-of-life care, pulmonology (COPD), medical communication (2024-2028)

 

Option 2: University of Pécs – Faculty of Science, Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences, Department of Political Geography, Development and Regional Studies

Research topics: 

  • Border Studies;
  • Political geography of Central and Southeast Europe
  • State- and Nation Building in Southeast Europe

Research topics:

  • Military and Memorial Landscapes;
  • Identity politics in Central and Southeastern Europe;
  • Migration and kin-state politics

 

Option 3: University of Pécs – Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

Contemporary Challenges Research Center

Research areas:

  • Migration, security policy, identity issues, ecology (with a focus on the effects of climate change), transforming economic systems, the social aspects of digitalization, urbanization, and rural depopulation

Institute of History

Topic: 

  • The planned joint research project will examine the confessional cultures of the former Habsburg Monarchy in the 16th-19th centuries.
  • The focus will be on the public and academic activities of Hungarian, Slavic and German-speaking Catholic and Protestant intellectuals.
  • Social Innovation Evaluation Research Unit (SIERC)

Research topics: 

  • The role of liminal experience in identity reconstructions
  • Explorations on academic identity

Institute of Psychology

Research topics:

  • Attitudes toward people with disabilities - focusing on social and personal determinants
  • Adjustment to chronic diseases - the influence of personality and social factors on the adjustment process, the impact of chronic disorders on caregivers/spouses
  • Emotional traits and emotion-regulation from an affective neuroscience perspective
  • Measuring affective responses during face categorization with eye tracking, EEG, and psychophysiological methods - testing the Multi-level Affective Feedback Model
  • Affective and semantic processing in face perception - measuring the incongruency effect with eye tracking, EEG, and psychophysiological methods
  • Eye-tracking in User Experience (UX) research
  • The effect of beauty stereotypes on the perception of sexual assault
  • The facilitation of within- and between-group cooperation in a new economic game
  • Dynamics of collective memory: how the past weights the present and vice versa
  • Relationship between national identification and ego identity status
  • Collective traumas and conspiracy theories
  • Attentional biases towards threats - capturing the vigilance-avoidance effect with eye-tracking and EEG.
  • The effect of statistical regularities in time and space on suppressing task-irrelevant phobia-related stimuli.
  • Investigating the effect of phobia-related task-irrelevant stimuli on task performance with subjective (survey) and objective (physiology) measures.

 

Option 4: University of Pécs – Faculty of Business and Economics

Research topics:

  • Sustainability Campus Index project
  • Business simulations, strategy, quality management
  • Experimental research on the internal drivers of over-indebtedness: how psychological, emotional, and cognitive factors influence individuals’ financial decisions  (behavioral economics)
  • Mainstreaming sustainability in consumer behaviour

Requirements

Specific Requirements

  • PhD degree – not more than 5 years (it is a plus if not older than 3 years), excluding parental leave
  • Younger than 40 years at the start of contract
  • Duration of the postdoc grant: 2 years
  • Fluency in English language (min. B2)
